Independent eSIM comparison, built on real testing
eSIMRated exists to help travelers find the right eSIM for their trip. We purchase, test, and compare every major provider so you can decide based on real data, not marketing claims.
Affiliate disclosure: Some outbound links are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission at no cost to you. Editorial selections are based on testing and are never influenced by commercial relationships.
Our editorial mission
The eSIM market has grown to more than 20 competing providers. Coverage varies by destination, pricing structures differ significantly, and marketing claims do not always match what travelers experience.
eSIMRated was built by a team of travel technology writers who were tired of misleading eSIM comparisons. We test every provider ourselves, buying real plans and measuring real speeds. Our findings are published in clear, comparable formats so you can choose with confidence.
We believe travelers deserve transparent, data-driven comparisons rather than sponsored rankings or paid placements disguised as editorial content.
How we test every provider
Every review on eSIMRated follows the same four-step process. Devices: iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S24, and Samsung Galaxy S25. Locations: the top 20 travel destinations by global visitor volume.
Purchase
We buy every plan at our own expense through each provider's app or website, the same way any traveler would.
Activate
We install and activate each eSIM on an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S24, and Samsung Galaxy S25, timing the full setup from QR scan to first connection.
Measure
We run speed tests across our top 20 test destinations, cross-reference coverage claims with carrier infrastructure data, and evaluate app quality on both iOS and Android.
Evaluate
We contact support with realistic traveler questions, assess resolution quality, verify pricing against official sources, and compile results into our five-category score.
Five dimensions, 0 to 5 scale
Each provider receives a score from 0.0 to 5.0, in increments of 0.1, across five categories. The overall rating is a weighted average. The weights reflect what matters most to travelers making a purchase decision.
