HelloRoam coverage in the Åland Islands: Ålcom 5G
HelloRoam routes all 6 Åland plans onto Ålcom, the archipelago's own operator and the only carrier in the feed, which matters because Åland sets its own telecom rules and neither Finnish nor Swedish networks serve it directly. Ålcom runs 5G across Mariehamn and Fasta Åland, the main island, with the outer skerries falling back to 3G. A Finland or Sweden plan does not substitute for it.
Dekkingsanalyse
Ålcom covers Mariehamn city center and the main roads on Fasta Åland, the mainland island, on 5G. The outer archipelago islands see reduced coverage, with some areas limited to 3G or 2G. Ferries between islands run outside coverage intermittently.
Download Google Maps offline layers for Mariehamn and your cycling routes before boarding a ferry from the mainland.
Activatie
Install the QR code before boarding your ferry from Turku or Stockholm, then switch the e-sim line on when you arrive. Ålcom attaches your connection in Mariehamn with no shop visit and no registration counter. Your device must be carrier-unlocked. iPhone XS or newer, Pixel 3a or newer, and Galaxy S20 or newer all support eSIM. The profile installs alongside the SIM already in your phone, so your home number keeps working.
All 6 Åland plans install the same way, starting at $2.44.
Tips voor datagebruik
Budget 300-400 MB per day for cycling navigation, weather apps, and social media. Offline maps downloaded before departure save significant data in archipelago areas with weak signal. Åland weather changes quickly, and marine forecast apps use around 50 MB per day. A week of that lands inside the 3 GB tier at $5.69, while the 5 GB plan at $9.00 gives headroom for photo uploads.
eSIM-abonnementsprijzen in Åland Islands
Åland Islands eSIM plans start at $2.44 for 1 GB over 7 days on Ålcom 5G. The 3 GB tier costs $5.69, 5 GB costs $9.00, and 10 GB costs $17.88. The 20 GB plan at $35.10 divides to $1.76/GB across 6 tiers.
A per-day Åland plan also sits at $4.14, carrying a 2 GB daily allowance with a fair-use speed reduction after that. A sailing or cycling week normally lands on the 5 GB tier.
